Valet Bike Parking

The majority of SABA’s interaction with the public is through our award-winning bicycle valet parking service.  Sponsored for 2009 and 2010 by the Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality Managament District, Bicycle Chef Bicycles, Gary Brustin, Cycling Attorney, and Mercy General Hospital, this is a service we can provide to help event organizers make their event more bicycle friendly, reducing vehicle parking requirements and promoting more sustainable transportation options.

Award-winning valet bicycle parking

Valet bike parking is like a “hat-check” for bikes, helping allow event attendees to bicycle to the event without having to worry about bike theft, damage, or other loss.  Event-goers simply wheel their bike up to SABA’s bike valet table, where our volunteers will take your bike, tag it, and park it safely within our secured compound.  No locks are needed, and we provide the service completely free to our customers.  When our customer is ready to leave, they simply come back to our compound, show their claim ticket to a volunteer, and wait while the valet retrieves the bike from our compound and brings it back to the customer.

It’s simple and secure, and it’s a system that’s allowed us to park over 5,000 bicycles a year and as many as 750 a day at a wide range of events.  SABA bike valet parking has been a marketable amenity for free concerts, farm days, air shows, Earth Day, the Amgen Tour of California, specialty races and rides, and even wine tastings.

Bike Parking Compound

SABA’s bike parking compound primarily uses lightweight PVC piping, allowing the components to be sturdy enough to handle the wear and tear of bike parking but light enough to be fully bike-portable.  Originally designed to hold 52 bikes, our compound has expanded over the years to accommodate hundreds of bikes with the equipment carried on just one of our two bike trailers.

The compound is enclosed by a plastic mesh fence similar to that used at many construction sites, supported by a free-standing PVC structure when needed.  The parking structure is a series of PVC hoops roughly 2 1/2 feet tall spaced 2 1/2 feet apart, giving us room to park one bicycle on either side of a hoop, but strong enough to support just about any bicycle out there.

With the recent addition of a second trailer, we are now pleased to offer three self-contained and bicycle-portable compound sizes:

Small (40 x 20′), for 100 bikes
Medium (60 x 40′), for 175 bikes
Large (60 x 40′), for up to 350 bikes

Event organizers

Valet bike parking provides environmental, public health and convenience benefits to event-goers and other benefits to the whole community. It’s evidence of your commitment to your customers and to a sustainable future.
