FREEWAY Teach In: Traffic Talk with Dr. Susan Handy Plus a Panel of Experts

Cool Davis Working Groups -- Davis Futures Forum and Yolo Mobility hosted guest speaker Susan Handy, Director National Center for Sustainable Transportation who offered her perspective on the planning for I-80 traffic congestion and the Yolo Causeway.
The Caltrans proposed solution is to increase the number of traffic lanes on the section running through Davis. But research at the UC Davis Institute of Transportation Studies shows that attempts to address congestion by adding lanes increasing capacity only works for a short time before the lanes are filled again by new drivers.
Her presentation was followed by a diverse panel who will gave their thoughts about how best to move forward. The panel included: Autumn Bernstein, Executive Director, Yolo County Transportation District, Nailah Pope-Harden, Executive Director, ClimatePlan, and Steve Wheeler, Prof. of Urban Planning and Design, UC Davis.
