Through advocacy, encouragement, education, and community, we’re making the Sacramento Region safer, more environmentally friendly and fun!
Advocacy
Our advocacy efforts help pass policies that allocate more funding for active transportation, safe street design and quick-build projects that can rapidly mitigate traffic collisions. 4 staff members serve on the City of Sacramento & W. Sacramento Active Transportation Commissions and Sac County’s Bicycle Advisory Committee. We are active members of Calbike and other local organizations that push for safe streets and lowered vehicle miles travelled. 100+ people stopped by our Park/ing takeover. This fall, we were honored as an Environmental Organization of the Year by Sac County’s Environmental Council.
In 2025, SABA participated in 7 interviews by news outlets advocating for better infrastructure and had 2 Op-eds in the Sac Bee pushing for changes that make Sacramento a safer place for cyclists and pedestrians. We were thrilled to have Streetsblog publish a letter to the editor. Our bi-monthly newsletter Gear’d Up has 14,500 subscribers and through our social media channels and Action Alerts, we reach readers about legislation, ways to advocate for change, biking events, and workshops. We have 15,000 FB/IG followers.

Encouragement
Our Bike Valet program, which secures your bike for free so you can attend an event without fear of theft was at 250 events and parked 7,000 bikes this year. During Aftershock, we parked over 1,000 bikes on one day.
Our Ride Ready, Repair provides free bike repair throughout the metro area for those in need, keeping bikes out of landfill and rolling safely. We repaired 2,300 bikes at over 170 events. This year we donated 200 bikes to social service organizations.
Our May is Bike Month and Biketober events brought out cyclists for rides to replace car trips with bike trips. We are proud to have
reached over 10,000,000 miles ridden during these encouragement efforts. 614 workplaces and 12,602 people participated, including 3,023 new riders. They cycled 10,989,842 miles on 724,652 rides, saving 822,709 pounds of CO2

Education
We are wrapping up our E-bike Education and Encouragement project, which centers e-bikes as a viable vehicle replacement
strategy. This year we had 138 e-bike test rides at 22 events. We created 18 e-bike videos and they were viewed 3,652 times. In addition, we were able to locally distribute 22 e-bike vouchers to local residents on behalf of the statewide e-bike incentive program.
In September, we were awarded a Safe Routes to Schools grant for schools in Sac County. We’ll be bringing a suite of activity: cycling classes, basics of street design, bike rodeos and more to the students in 6 schools. We also launched Learn 2 Ride classes for anyone who wants to sharpen their riding skills or who is just starting out.

Community
SABA brought the fun with 60 blender bike smoothies and 40 bike art pieces spun by bike. Our monthly social rides had on average 30+ participants, with our Bat Ride at riders!
SABA’s Supermarket Sweep, an event where cyclists shop at local grocery stores, generated 1140+ lbs of food for River City Food Bank.
This year was the 1st year that we hosted Bike & Seek which drew 83 participants. The 2nd Bike n Seek Arts edition in the Fall was a hit too!
The grand opening of the Community Bike Shop on Stockton Boulevard happened in August! In partnership with Community Shop Class we are providing much needed bike service to residents who live in and around Stockton Blvd.
Our outreach tripled this year. We tabled at 556 events around the Sacramento region. 139 volunteers donated over 2,886+ hours of time.
SABA is guided by a 15 member Board of Directors, and 30 part time staff members who always rise to the occasion when cycling is concerned.
