Temporary closures of streets to autos allow people to use the streets for a variety of activities.

Every May we celebrate our local bike culture and encourage riders to replace their car trips with bike trips.
Current Advocacy Issues
Red Light Camera Bill - SB 720
- Background: SABA is advocating for the passage of California SB 720, a bill that would establish an opt-in red light camera program for local jurisdictions to use called the Safer Streets Program, which is designed to save lives, improve privacy and security, and eliminate costly fines.
- Status: The bill passed the Assembly Transportation Committee with a unanimous 15–0 vote. On July 16, the Privacy and Consumer Protection Committee voted to send the bill to the Appropriations Committee which will hear it in mid-August. If it passes Appropriations, then it will go to the governor to be signed.
- What you can do: Provide written testimony or contact members of the Appropriations Committee.

Bike Highways Bill, AB 954
- Background: CalBike is sponsoring the Bike Highways Bill, AB 954, which would add bike highways to state transportation planning, encouraging local and regional governments to build on existing bicycle infrastructure and to create the connected transportation networks.
- Status: The bill was referred to the Appropriations Committee on July 9.
- What you can do: Sign the CalBike petition.
