Valet Bike Parking

SABA’s award winning bicycle valet service is our most popular and highest profile program, and it’s also our most in-demand.  Every year, SABA volunteers park thousands of bikes at events ranging from summer’s weekly Friday Night Concerts in the Park, group rides like the Party Pardee, special events like the Amgen Tour of California, and various other festivals, fundraisers, and events around town.

SABA Volunteer Night

Drop in for our monthly volunteer night to meet fellow volunteers and have a bite to eat – all while keeping the SABA wheels rolling!  Volunteer Night is every 2nd Thursday of the month, from 5 pm to 8 pm at SABA’s 909 12th Street headquarters.

Mile 8 & Sacramento Northern Trailhead Cleanup

In 2002 SABA adopted Mile 8 of the American River Parkway the Sacramento Northern Trailhead.  Our adopted section is on the north side of the river and runs from just east of the Guy West Bridge at CSUS (across from the water intake structure) to Mile 9, which is east of Howe Avenue. Our section of the Sacramento Northern Path runs from the trailhead on C Street between 19th and 20th Streets to the Union Pacific RR undercrossing and is next to the Blue Diamond Almond factory.  In an area where trash and weeds used to abound there are now over 100 native plants!

We host 4 cleanups each year (and try to do some non-native plant removal) on weekend mornings. Check for the latest schedule — one clean up is always scheduled to coincide with the Great American River Clean Up in September.

Light On!

Inspired by Portland’s “Get Lit” program, SABA started giving away headlights and taillights to riders in December, 2006 and have continued the program every winter since.  We’ve passed out hundreds of lights by setting up volunteers at random locations around town after dark.  Our volunteers flag down cyclists without lights, install these free lights for them, and pass out educational information.

Tabling

SABA is invited to attend many events.  To help spread the word about us and our mission, we often need volunteers to set up a booth and pass out pro-SABA propaganda and inform the public about what we do and why it’s so important.

Other opportunities

If you’ve got a unique skill and a desire to contribute to SABA, we’d love to try to work something out with you.  Video production, macrame, public relations, you name it.  It never hurts to learn what our volunteers and members are capable of!
