SpotSoilBornLogo250x246Soil Born Farms on the American River is one of our region’s sweet treasures, and best enjoyed by bike. We’re riding out to Soil Born’s annual Day on the Farm celebration — join us!

WHAT: This is a friendly group ride along the American River Parkway, starting in East Sacramento and ending at Soil Born Farms next to Hagen Park in Rancho Cordova. The annual Day on the Farm celebration includes a farmer’s market, tastings, vendors, live music, tours, crafts, kids’ activities, community education tables, cooking demos and more. We’ll ride out together, and then we’re on our own for the rest of the day.

WHERE: We meet at East Portal Park at 51st and M streets in East Sacramento, where we’ll enjoy morning snacks to start the day. From there we ride east on M St. to Sac State, across the Guy West Bridge, and up the American River Parkway.

The one-way distance is about 9 miles. The first mile is on quiet city streets shared with (mostly) calm traffic. The next 8 miles follow the flat and gently rolling American River Parkway bike trail shared with walkers, joggers and other people on bikes. We’ll end at Soil Born Farms, betwen mile markers 15 and 16, near Hagen Park. SABA is providing free valet bike parking.

WHAT ELSE: This ride is open to everyone. We’ll have a ride leader and sweeper, so nobody gets left behind, however, this is not a supported ride — plan ahead!

The pace will be a friendly 9-12 MPH and we expect to ride for about an hour. Please be sure you and your bike are in shape for the pace and distance (this distance may be too long for cruisers). The route will be mostly sunny and probably warm, so bring a hat and sunglasses and dress comfortably.

REGISTRATION: The ride is free — there’s a $5 entrance fee at Day on the Farm (bring cash). Your donation to SABA will help us organize other rides to explore our region.
