Arlete Hodel

Arlete Hodel

After retiring from teaching, Arlete started riding her bicycle a lot…she’s gone across the country and into Canada. She loves Rails to Trails rides. Then Arlete started spreading her love of cycling. She got people interested in riding in North Natomas where she makes her home and formed Arlete’s BIG, a group of neighbors and friends who ride together and have gained confidence by doing so.

Arlete is also an LCI, a licensed certified bicycle instructor. She’s been coaching and mentoring other freshly minted LCIs and she’s amazing. Arlete is also involved in advocacy! She sits on Sacramento County’s Bicycle Advisory Committee and is the chair of the City of Sacramento’s Active Transportation Committee. She is an incredible bicycling advocate and a great friend to SABA. Congratulations Arlete!

Bill Leddy

Bill is another amazing SABA volunteer. He has helped out with Bike Valet and is a head mechanic with our Ride Ready Repair services. He has taken care of our inventory at JIBE where we provide Bike Doc service to the North Natomas community. Bill will jump on his e-bike on short notice and will fill in for just about anything we ask – all with a winning smile.

A Black woman and a white man stand next to a bike. Both are wearing face masks.
During the pandemic, Bill Leddy hands off a new bike to Znetta, an Advice Nurse at Kaiser. She’s going to get some exercise with her daughter!

During the pandemic, Bill was instrumental in helping us launch our Upcycle program, which got bikes into the hands of essential workers so they could get to their jobs. Not only that, but Bill is an inventor too! He coded and created a special calendar that we use for scheduling events, which is a time-saver for us.

Both of these amazing people have made contributions to SABA that have helped us expand our reach and we couldn’t be prouder and thankful to have them in the SABA family.

2021 Awardee

Bike Dog Brewery

Bike Dog Brewing Co., West Sacramento, Blood, Sweat and Beers.Bike Dog Brewery was given a Good Wheel Award from SABA in 2021 for their long standing support of SABA’s activities. Whenever SABA asks for help or beer for an event, Bike Dog always comes through. We’ve been fortunate to partner with Bike Dog Brewing for two years on Velofest, a bicycle event in partnership with REI during May is Bike Month. Bike is in their name so of course we think they’re great!
